Porsche Cayman vs Audi TTS: what car would you chose?
Today we are gonna compare two german sport cars with similar price and similar characteristic both available in coupe/spyder edition:
AUDI TTS:
PORSCHE CAYMAN:
So what car would you choose guys?
AUDI TTS:
The Audi TT is a small 2-door sports car marketed by Volkswagen Group subsidiary Audi since 1998, assembled by the Audi subsidiary Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. in Győr, Hungary, using bodyshells manufactured and painted at Audi's Ingolstadt plant. This changed with the third generation model that uses parts made entirely by the Hungarian factory. At the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Audi released the first Audi "S" model of the TT range – the Audi TTS quattro, with a heavily revised 2.0 TFSI engine. The cylinder block, cylinder head and the fuel injectors have all been modified from the base 2.0 TFSI engine (ID: CDL). Together with other modifications, this engine produces a DIN-rated motive power output of 200 kilowatts (272 PS; 268 bhp), and generates a torque of 350 newton metres (258 lbf·ft) from 2,500 to 5,000 rpm. It is available with a choice of either a six-speed close-ratio manual transmission, or a six-speed 'S tronic' transmission. In the United States, the S tronic gearbox will be the only available transmission. Like all Audi "S" models, it is only available with quattro four-wheel drive as standard. The suspension is lowered by 10 millimetres (0.4 in) over the standard models, and includes "Audi Magnetic Ride" as standard and a new two-stage sports-biased Electronic Stability Programme (ESP). Radially ventilated front disc brakes are clamped by a single-piston gloss black caliper emblazoned with a bold TTS logo, and a lap timer is prominent in the centre of the instrument cluster. 9Jx18" '5-parallel-spoke' design alloy roadwheels are standard, with 245/40 ZR18 high-performance tyres. 19" '5-spoke star' wheels and tyres are optional. The exterior has some changes over the standard model – with a TTS body styling: with redesigned front, with larger air intakes, redesigned rear bumper, side sill extensions, and four exhaust tailpipes. Official performance figures for the sprint from standstill to 100 kilometres per hour (62.1 mph) for the TTS Coupé can be reached in 5.4 seconds, with the Roadster two-tenths slower at 5.6 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 kilometres per hour (155 mph). Audi UK offered eight TTS cars for official use by the race organisers at the 2008 Isle of Man TT motorcycle races. The car went on sale in the USA at November 2008. In 2014, at the International Motor Show in Geneva, Audi unveiled the new TTS model for the 2016 model year, alongside the standard 2016 Audi TT model. Both models are planned to go on sale in the beginning of 2015.
PORSCHE CAYMAN:
The Porsche Cayman is a rear mid-engined, rear wheel drive 2-seat sports car produced by Porsche AG of Germany. First launched in the 2006 model year, the Cayman is a coupé derived from Porsche's second and third generation Boxster roadster. The designer of the first generation of Porsche Cayman was Pinky Lai. Like the Boxster, most Caymans were assembled in Finland for Porsche by Valmet Automotive (the rest were assembled in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, Germany). Porsche's Deputy Chairman, Holger P. Haerter stated that the contract with Valmet Automotive will end in 2012, and the Cayman's production was to be outsourced to Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. However, as Volkswagen assumed control of Porsche AG, production of Caymans and Boxsters after 2012 began in the former Karmann plant in Osnabrück, Germany, which is now owned by Volkswagen and also used for production of the 2012 Golf (Mk6) convertible. Engines: Here's where the big – and somewhat controversial – changes take place. Porsche has ditched naturally aspirated six-cylinder units in favour of turbocharged flat-fours in its standard offerings, making these the first Porsche road cars to be powered by four cylinders since the 968, which was discontinued in 1995. According to Evo, "the new four-cylinder engines will no doubt be a source of consternation for fans of the existing six-cylinder units", but they offer more power, more torque and better fuel economy – the last of those three bonuses the reason Porsche has found the downsize necessary. In entry level trim, both the Boxster and Cayman get a 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four with 296bhp and 280lb-ft torque. It's 35bhp up on the 2.7-litre naturally aspirated flat-six of old and much torquier – it gets an extra 73lb-ft thanks to turbocharging. Both cars deal with 0-62mph in 4.7secs and on to a top speed of 170mph, with Porsche claiming the engine can return 40.9mpg. More expensive "S" variants will get a 2.5-litre unit with 345bhp and 310lb-ft torque between 1900-4500rpm. They will do 0-62mph in 4.2secs and top out at 177mph. The result is "incredibly quick and enjoyable to drive", says Carbuyer. Gearbox choices for each car extend to a six-speed manual, or Porsche's optional seven-speed dual-clutch PDK automatic. Due to the increased performance, Porsche has fitted the cars with larger brakes as standard. The entry level cars get the brakes from their S trim predecessors, while S cars get the four-piston calipers from the 911 Carrera. The disks are 13ins at the front, and 11.7ins at the rear. Four-cylinder engines are the only confirmed units so far, but there's still a chance Porsche could use six-cylinder engines in further additions to the line-up. Auto Express says that Porsche has hinted that feedback for its Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder 3.8 could be too good for the firm to completely skip out of using six-cylinder engines in its latest cars, and special editions added to the line-up during its lifespan could switch back to the old naturally aspirated units. Interior: Keeping with the subtleties of the exterior facelift, the interior will feel similar to owners of the last generation cars, but with one or two styling tweaks and some new technology additions. The steering wheel is one of the attention grabbers – it's a new one, and inspired by the wheel found in the cabin of the firm's flagship 918 supercar. Repositioned and re-modelled air vents, as well as a new clock and upgraded dials are inside too. The infotainment package has been upgraded with these latest cars, now supporting Apple CarPlay with Siri integration, as well as a new optional sound system and some other tech based additions, like a wireless charging mat for smartphones.
